Between soft pink hues and the light that evokes the essence of summer, stepping into the garden feels like stepping into one of Hieronymus Bosch’s whimsical paintings.

A stopover that becomes a stay.

Gasthaus Traube

A newly designed gem of a hotel

Passing through the 200-year-old arches of the ice cellar of historic Gasthaus Traube, you cross over to the hotel, which has just opened its doors. Inside the rooms, you can relish the experience of running your hands over the ornate wood panelling. The furniture and materials are strikingly beautiful; the bathrooms are veritable jewellery boxes adorned with illustrious green tiles. Guests come to rest and enjoy a fantastic night’s sleep.

The signature of talented interior designer Ruth Kramer – also the hostess of Brücke 49 in Vals – is evident here. It is a relaxing and enjoyable place. Ideal for a rejuvenating stopover, for coffee in the garden or to stay longer and linger in the hotel room for a weekend escape, seminar or celebration.

Dreamlike, but grounded in craft.
Ruth Kramer’s signature, unmistakable.
Bathrooms like little jewellery boxes.

Werdenberg
St. Gallen

Right next to Buchs lies the ancient town of Werdenberg – a living museum perched on its castle hill with the Alpstein as a backdrop. It’s the oldest timber-frame settlement in Switzerland, complete with a small lake and a castle that finish the picture perfectly.

Artisanal, seasonal cuisine in the Braustube.

Gasthaus Traube

An interplay between dream and reality

This place connects two worlds – the old and the new. As you wander through the inn’s historic rooms, from the former courtroom to the elegant salon, the ambience shifts from stucco-adorned walls and herringbone floors to modern touches and wonderful decor. A true highlight is the Traubensaal, where you feel like you have landed between the pages of a storybook and where airy, fragrant bread is served with salted butter.

Nevertheless, our favourite room is the library. Here, you can peruse the books with a drink in hand, prepared on the spot at the gleaming brass, leather-wrapped bar cabinet. As the evening sun casts its warm glow into the room and reflects off the brass, you can revel in a brief and enchanting interlude.

Traubensaal – dinner in a storybook.
Library hour: drink in hand, brass aglow.
