If Montamont had a home, it might well be here. Where century-old walls shine anew, chandeliers glow once more, and modern interiors breathe fresh life into the alpine grandeur.

Grand hotel belvedere
An alpine classic, reimagined
For 112 years, nothing much had changed. Then general manager Lorenz Maurer and an ambitious creative team – Clavien & Associés, Complete Works, and Atelier Saint-Lazare – reimagined the Belvedere without erasing its soul.
Today, the historic fireplace and carved woodwork speak of the past, while sculptural lamps cut like mountain crystals, aqua-blue curtains, and a brutalist jewel of an outdoor pool bring you firmly into the present. Inside, a Susanne Kaufmann Spa carries the scent of pomegranate to skin and spirit. The mountain air already does half the work, the therapists the rest.

Somewhere
truly alpine

The hotel unfolds in two wings, embraced by its private forest. If you are an early riser, a fox may greet you at dawn, stepping out of the trees to see which guests have arrived, while the village of Wengen still lies under its blanket of sleep.

Grand Hotel Belvedere
Contemporary grandeur
The Belvi Salon, a winter garden of contemporary grandeur, is a place for orange wine, a few pages of whatever book you find lying around, and the soft movement of curtains in the wind. Outside, yellow parasols bloom across the terrace. Inside, a carefully curated art program introduces Swiss artists whose works fold past and present into the same frame. In the lobby, the former fumoir has been transformed into a Monocle store, adding another layer of contemporary detail to the house.
And then, the Brasserie: Will Gordon, the young chef, has found the perfect stage for his contemporary cuisine, serving up unpretentious excellence to hungry guests. A stage for contrasts. A grand hotel, reborn.

Wengen remains a car-free world, reached only by cogwheel train and the occasional heli. On arrival, the Belvedere’s blue electric car will take you from the station straight into another tempo. And while the Jungfrau massif calls with endless adventure, you may find it hard to leave at all.

The location
High above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the Grand Hotel Belvedere sits at the edge of car-free Wengen – a place you reach only by cogwheel train, which already shifts you into another pace. From the station, the hotel’s blue electric car glides you up the hill, past wooden chalets and gardens, until the Belvedere appears.
