Kleiner Löwe
A standout piece of architecture wrapped in an old-town facade – and the elegant little guesthouse Bregenz didn’t know it was missing.

At “kleiner Löwe,” nothing is standard. What elsewhere might be angular is curved, and the wooden handrail twists so spectacularly through the staircase that even the local craftsmen – well versed as they are in the ways of the Bregenzerwald – paused over the plans by Herzog & de Meuron.

Kleiner Löwe
Small, fine,
and unforgettable
The gentle blue on the walls is as welcoming as the greeting inside. Adults and children alike feel instantly at home. We settle into the deep benches of the floor-to-ceiling double windows, watching the rhythm of Kornmarkt Square unfold below. Those with a moment to spare might pour themselves a refreshment from the floor’s minibar or make a fragrant espresso on the La Piccola – naturally.
On certain days, you might spot the brass musicians marching past in their top hats and red uniforms, best viewed from above or from the small round tables in the garden terrace, where drinks are served in the sun and the old trees sway just enough to cast moving shadows.

Trevo beans, freshly roasted.
And croissants.

An exclusive little address in the heart of Bregenz’s old town – though not exactly new. The building has stood here since 1820: once a brewery, then the city’s first cinema, and much more in between.

Kleiner Löwe
A small house, architecturally
anything but.
Now, the architects from Basel had the inspired idea to preserve its charming facade – the house’s face, so to speak – while letting a modern structure rise behind it, complete with its iconic barrel roof. High-quality materials, the warm beauty of crafted furniture, soft zinc surfaces, and small architectural surprises create a calm, inviting atmosphere at “kleiner Löwe.”
Everything here is indeed small, refined, and quietly cosy. For Lisa and Johannes, hospitality has become a calling – they simply do things the way they appreciate them themselves. And it shows.

All we want is pure perfection. Enjoy it in the enchanting garden: the first sun, a freshly squeezed orange juice, and the classic – a warm, just-baked croissant. That’s all it takes.

The location
Right in the heart of Bregenz’s old town, “kleiner Löwe” sits exactly where you want to be: steps from the Kornmarkt, a stroll to the lake, and just far enough from the festival crowds to keep things calm. The neighbourhood is a tangle of small shops and cafés – the kind of place where everything feels close, yet nothing feels rushed.
